How to Run the Support Group Meetings
1. At the first meeting, the facilitator must make known the fact that a safe space must created and achieved
each meeting.
2. The meeting should run for twenty to sixty minutes. It depends on the pace and age of the group members.
3. There should be at least one meeting where information about Alzheimer ’s Disease is discussed amongst the
teens. Understanding the disease itself is beneficial in order to apply one’s emotions and understand why
the teens feel the way they do.
4. Each teen of the support group should have the opportunity to lead the group so that it group does not cater
to only one teen.
5. During the establishment of the group and every four months, a survey or evaluation must be designed and
completed so that the group knows how to keep this group successful. This does not have to be done on paper.
In fact, if the survey is lead as a discussion, it will be easier to gauge everyone’s opinions.
Rules to keep the Group in a “Safe Place”
1. Cursing of any kind is prohibited.
2. Speaking will another person is speaking is prohibited.
3. Each thought and emotion that is shared should be valued by all group members.
4. Communication is key!
